1.1 On September 19, 2026, Mark Nichols stated the tortilla analogy and seated the analogy the same day as item 9 of Article 32, The Refutations of Record, on The Governing Definitions, and this page is the analogy’s full retelling, with every dish at the feast mapped to its document.
1.2 The analogy of record reads:

2. Every dish at the feast is a documented exhibit, and the founding proposal itself priced the pre-existence.
2.1 The founding proposal of the World Wide Web, “WorldWideWeb: Proposal for a HyperText Project”, dated 12 November 1990, names in its own text at least eighteen existing technologies and products, among them SGML, PostScript, HyperCard, VT100 displays, Usenet news, DECnet, NeXTStep, and the X window system.
2.2 The same proposal prices the pre-existence, word for word: “We would like to be able to purchase licenses for commercial hypertext software where we feel this could be incorporated into the project, and save development and maintenance time, or where we feel we could gain useful experience from its use. (Approximate examples are: Guide license: CHF750; KMS full author license CHF1500, evaluation kit CHF100. FrameMaker: CHF2000)”.
2.3 The Web’s contemporaneous sibling states the arithmetic of teams: the Internet Gopher protocol, “designed for distributed document search and retrieval” in its own abstract’s words, is specified in RFC 1436 of March 1993, and RFC 1436 carries six authors on its byline, F. Anklesaria, M. McCahill, P. Lindner, D. Johnson, D. Torrey, and B. Alberti, every one of the University of Minnesota.
2.4 The tortillas themselves had many hands: the founding proposal carries two names on its byline, T. Berners-Lee and R. Cailliau; the line-mode browser, the first browser that could run on any system, was written by Nicola Pellow during her student work placement at CERN, as CERN’s own history states; and the same history records Paul Kunz and Louise Addis bringing the first Web server in the United States online in December 1991.
3. The party was already running, and the calendar states the dependency to the day.
3.1 The party was the capital-I Internet: “The capital-I Internet was born in 1991,” when the independently operated commercial networks PSINet, AlterNet under UUNET, and CERFnet interconnected as the Commercial Internet eXchange, as Article 1 and Article 9 of The Governing Definitions rule.
3.2 The Web’s own dates are the record’s dates: the World Wide Web was announced publicly on August 6, 1991, its software was released into the public domain by CERN on April 30, 1993, and NCSA Mosaic, created by Marc L. Andreessen and Eric J. Bina at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications, was released in November 1993, as Facts 9, 11, and 12 of The Governing Definitions record.
3.3 The calendar states the dependency to the day: the Web’s software went public on April 30, 1993, and the gated research fabric beneath most of its hosts was absorbed into the public Internet “two years later to the day, on April 30, 1995,” as Article 8 of The Governing Definitions states.
